Just a bit of background about me and why I decided to write this blog. I am a person who works in the IT space and at the moment there isn't a lot of work around for the company I work for, so I have reduced my hours to four days a week. I have been thinking about what I wanted to do on my Friday's off and because I have had animals all my life, I decided to volunteer at my local dog rescue centre. My first shift is tomorrow!
We had an induction last weekend and I heard a lot of stories from the current volunteers about dogs being dumped in parks, puppies being brought into the centre, dogfighting, dogs being tied up outside the centre and dumped, that I decided that education was the key in trying to minimise the suffering of these dogs and I would write a blog about my experiences!
The centre I will be volunteering at, does not put dogs down and goes around to the local pounds and collects dogs that are suitable from 'death row'. They home around 600 to 700 dogs a year!
If you are interested, please watch this space! I will be volunteering every fortnight, so my posts will be fortnightly. I will ensure to post my experience from tomorrow, tomorrow!
Thanks
